Overview

Controlled Thermal Resources (CTR) is undergoing a U.S. public listing to fund its construction-ready Hell’s Kitchen geothermal-lithium project in Imperial County, California – one of America’s largest and most advanced projects of its kind, combining 24/7 baseload power generation with direct lithium extraction from the same geothermal brine.

Transaction Highlights

  • Hall Chadwick is advising CTR on its proposed U.S. public listing via a business combination with Plum Acquisition Corp. IV (Nasdaq: PLMK); the combined company is expected to trade on Nasdaqunder the ticker CTRH.
  • CTR operates the Hell’s Kitchen Project on ~4,000 controlled acres at the Salton Sea – a resource area with a 40+ year production history and reservoir temperatures up to 734°F, one of the largest known geothermal brine reservoirs in the world.
  • The project has already attracted ~$310 million of investment, including ~$137 million of capitalized long-lead equipment for Stage 1, and has advanced permitting roughly 98% complete.
  • At full build-out, the project targets ~650 MW of renewable baseload power, ~100,000 metric tons per year of lithium (LCE), and long-term upside from ~3,000,000 metric tons per year of potash and other U.S.-designated critical minerals.

He has spent his career founding, funding, and scaling businesses across marketing, hospitality, education, e-commerce, fintech, and foodtech, with a particular focus on Australia and South East Asia.

Having launched his first company while still at university and built ventures ever since, Tristan brings a founder-first perspective shaped by both hard-won successes and instructive setbacks. That operating experience — from early-stage start-ups through to public markets — informs how he supports management teams, and he is a firm believer in backing companies that solve genuinely big problems in the region.

At Hall Chadwick, Tristan focuses on U.S. capital markets, cross-border M&A, strategic advisory, and growth capital for high-impact companies. He is Chairman and Co-CEO of two NASDAQ-listed special purpose acquisition companies, Fat Projects Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ: FATP) and Aura FAT Projects Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ: AFAR), each formed to partner with high-growth technology companies.

Through FAT Projects, the Singapore-headquartered venture studio he co-founded, Tristan builds and funds internal start-ups and joins the cap tables of emerging growth companies. His ventures include the food-tech brand Bamboo Bowls, Singapore restaurant and bar Panamericana, fintech platform ipaymy, and e-commerce company Mums.sg, in which he sold a majority stake to JD.com. He moved his family to Singapore in 2013 and regards the city and the wider South East Asian region as among the best places in the world to build a business.
