Josephine Yau Ching Sung, (also known as Joey) is a Certified Public Accountant with over 18 years of experience in corporate and individual insolvencies, corporate advisory, restructuring, forensic accounting, financial investigations, financial reviews, and litigation support.  Fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, she is well-equipped to assist clients across different regions and cultural contexts.

She has extensive experience in cross-border asset recovery, managing legal proceedings in foreign jurisdictions such as the BVI and Cayman Islands, and in courts of the PRC and Taiwan. In recent years, Joey has worked closely with boards of listed and large private companies, advising on financial planning, internal controls, and cash and working capital management.

Joey also has substantial contentious and non-contentious business valuation experience and often acts as the Court Expert Witness in commercial litigation and matrimonial proceedings. Joey has been recognised by Who’s Who Legal as a 2023 Global Leader – Forensic Accountant Consulting Expert.

Joey’s assignments span various industries, including fintech, diamond trading, military education, securities and brokerage, garment and textile, food and beverage, property development, and manufacturing.

  • Appointed Expert Witness by the high Court of HKSAR to assess loss of profits of a trading company.
  • Appointed Single Joint Expert by the high Court of HKSAR to value a group of companies to assist the Court in determination of granting a winding-up order.
  • Appointed as the Single Joint Expert by the High Court of HKSAR to value a minority shareholder’s shareholding in a Hong Kong company.
  • Produced an expert witness report to assist the Joint Official Liquidators appointed by the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands to opine on valuation of a cryptocurrency exchange.
  • Prepared an expert witness report to the High Court of HKSAR on valuation of a main board listed Hong Kong company engaged in building energy pipelines in Mainland China as one of the major matrimonial assets. Prepared an expert witness report to the High Court of HKSAR on valuation of assets held by a Japanese mutual fund company in a matrimonial case.
  • Prepared an expert witness report to the High Court of HKSAR on valuation of a GEM board listed Hong Kong company engaged in environmental services, plastic dyeing business and development of dock project in Mainland China in a matrimonial dispute.
  • Prepared an expert witness report to the High Court of HKSAR to account for profits of two popular Japanese-sushi restaurant groups comprising of 30 restaurants in Hong Kong.
  • Prepared an expert witness report on findings of USD290 million being misappropriated by the former director of a conglomerate listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange and obtained favourable judgments all the way through to the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal.
  • Financial advisor to the board of a Hong Kong listed company in an operational restructuring assignment to facilitate the resumption of trading of its securities listed on the mainboard of Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
  • Financial adviser to a US venture capital fund in a disposal of a key investment project in Shanghai to a Japanese counterpart.
  • Court Appointed Trustees defending the family trust claim against bankruptcy estate assets including 15 Hong Kong properties.

  • Administered a receivership of shares in a Hong Kong listed company and its subsidiaries in Mainland China.
  • Disposed of manufacturing facilities (occupying more than 70 acres land) to the local government in Jiangxi Province in a liquidation of a Hong Kong company and its subsidiaries in Mainland China.
  • Applied to the High Court of HKSAR for an injunction order an obtained the order to freeze bank accounts of various family members of a bankrupt.
  • Assisted in production of a report to the Secretary for Justice under Section 277(2) of the Companies (Winding up and Miscellaneous Provisions) that led to the conviction of the former director in a liquidation of a Hong Kong company.
